Hello collieman, you could try to use AOMEI windows PE bootable media to restore the system. I think there is a little compatiable issues on the Linux bootable disc. If still have problem with WinPE, let us know.

You can delete all partitions on this SSD to get the unallocated space, then try again.

If can't enter into PreOS, you can create a bootable media, then migrate OS to SSD from the bootable media.

Alternative way to restore, you could try to use AOMEI Backupper -> Utilities -> Explore Image, copy all files in the image to other drives.
