The "News and Interest" taskbar widget on the Windows 10 system is very similar to the widget system in the Windows 11 system, but the access method is different. On Windows 10, there is a real-time widget on the taskbar that displays weather, stock price indicators, and other news items, so it is useful even if you don’t open the actual widget.
On Windows 11, there is a widget icon in the taskbar, but it is static and easily forgotten, so clicking on it is much less attractive. Microsoft has noticed that the usage rate of their new Windows 11 widgets is much lower than that of Windows 10 news and interest widgets, because the company is tracking the restoration of Windows 10 functionality.
In the latest Windows 11 Insider Build 22518, Microsoft wrote: "We are trying to display the widget entry point on the left side of your taskbar, and display real-time weather content. You can also simply hover over the entry point to come up and open the widget panel".
The taskbar widget is no longer centered, but placed on the left side of the Windows start button, which I believe will cause a lot of accidental clicks.
