For users who frequently send and receive emails, if clicking on the email link to pop up an email client other than the one you are used to may affect your work efficiency, then you may want to modify the system default settings. In Windows 11, there are some changes to modify the default application compared with Windows 10, if you are not familiar with it, you can refer to the following steps.
How to modify Win 11 default email app
First, press Windows + I on your keyboard to open the Settings application. Or, you can right-click the Start button in the taskbar and select Settings.
Once Settings opens, click “Apps” in the sidebar and select “Default apps”.
In Default apps, click the search bar and enter the name of the email application you want to use as your default application, then click it.
On the settings page for the email application, click the button under Mail. This will configure how Windows will open the "mailto:" link that is commonly found in web pages.
In the "How do you want to open this" pop-up window, select the email application you want to use as the default for "mailto:" links, and click OK.
If you want to configure the same email client to open EML files, you can also click the ".EML" link on the Default Applications page and select the email application from the list. When you are done, close the settings.
In a similar way, you can also modify other types of default applications, such as browsers. However, it must be said that this way of changing the settings for different formats of files is a bit tedious and increases the time cost. It is no wonder that some users think that this is a subtle way to guide the user's habits.
