Windows 11 KB5008353 is now available for download as an optional update patch on devices outside of the Insider program. Unlike previous cumulative updates, today's optional release actually comes with a new feature, and it also includes various improvements to the operating system.
Windows 11 KB5008353 is part of Microsoft's optional update cycle. As you may know, the optional update is one of the most common optional quality preview releases for Windows, which is usually released in the third or fourth week of each month and contains non-security fixes.
The January 2022 Windows 11 optional update includes a large number of fixes for issues reported in the past few weeks, with no security fixes. If you choose to install the optional update, you are helping Microsoft test next month's Patch Tuesday. Microsoft refers to users who manually choose to install updates as "explorers," or those actively looking for updates.
With this month's patch release, Microsoft said it fixed Bluetooth and audio issues and also added a new page to the Settings app to help people manage their Microsoft accounts and Office 365 subscriptions, if any. In addition, Microsoft is now using Bing AI to suggest help topics in the Settings page.

With Windows 11 Build 22000.469, Microsoft is making improvements to the Windows Settings app. This update will allow users to manage their Office and Xbox subscriptions from within the Settings app, which will make it easier for users with Office personal or business subscriptions to operate.
To try out this new feature, go to Settings > Accounts > Your Microsoft Account in Windows 11. As you can see in the screenshot, you can now manage information related to your Microsoft account, such as subscriptions, order history, payment details, and even Microsoft Rewards (available in certain regions).
In addition to the updated Settings app, Microsoft has also fixed an issue where wireless audio devices may not work as expected. Another bug has been fixed where the app icons in the taskbar could appear to have active characteristics as if the apps were running in the background.
There is also a related fix for a bug that prevented icons from appearing on the secondary display.
A bug with the taskbar showing the volume icon as muted has also been fixed in this release. Another glitch is that when you use the auto-hide feature and you hover over the primary or secondary display, the taskbar may not appear.
Similarly, Microsoft is working on a change that will allow the Settings app to properly log and report the battery percentage of connected Bluetooth devices.
Finally, a known issue has been resolved where Windows 11 may prevent some image editing programs from rendering colors correctly on certain high dynamic range (HDR) displays.
Should I install the optional update?
As we mentioned at the beginning, Windows 11 Build 22000.469 is an optional release with fixes that will be bundled with the "Patch Tuesday" release in February 2022. If you encounter the problem highlighted above, you can install the optional update and resolve the issue before the next Patch Tuesday release.
Remember, the optional updates are much more stable than the Insider Preview version of the OS.
However, if you are not experiencing problems with Windows 11, you can skip the update because you will get the same fix in the next mandatory update. You can wait a few weeks and get the same fixes after other users have tested it.
