Microsoft has released Windows 11 on October 5, and many users have upgraded and experienced it for some time. The feedback is generally positive, but not everyone can adapt to some of the new designs in Win11, such as the new right-click shortcut menu.
The right-click menu is no longer intuitive
Windows 11 has made a lot of changes to the right-click menu, but many users think that the operation efficiency has been reduced instead.
For example, when right-clicking on an application, instead of the most commonly used operations such as copying, pasting, deleting, renaming, etc., the menu that is called out becomes the corresponding small icon. And it is not adapted to third-party software, such as strong uninstall, upload, antivirus scan and other extended functions cannot be displayed in the first time.
For example, the original version of the OS lacked a "refresh" option almost everywhere in the context menu, thus preventing users from directly refreshing what they were looking at. The only way to refresh a folder or the desktop was to access the old context menu options, which are available in modern versions, but they are cumbersome and require going to the next level of the menu, especially for OCD users who are used to clicking on the right-click menu to "refresh" for fun.
Interestingly, Microsoft also seems to know that old users are hard to get used to this interface, so when you click "Show more options" at the bottom, our familiar interface is back. In other words, after upgrading from Win10 to Win11, you only need to use one step to complete the operation, but now you need two steps.
Users vote for bringing back the right-click refresh function
Microsoft finally solved this highly cried problem on the desktop by bringing back the refresh menu option for Windows 11 users. However, this only happened on the desktop, not all over the OS.
A feedback thread in Windows Feedback called for Microsoft to make it available in the regular folder as well, and the proposal has received more than 300 support tickets.
Microsoft engineer Jen Gentleman has responded to the suggestion, although she hasn't confirmed that the refresh button will appear everywhere throughout Windows 11. However, Gentleman highlighted other ways to refresh files in folders.
She said that while "Refresh" is not currently the top option when right-clicking on a folder in File Explorer, for what it's worth, you can click the Refresh button directly in the address bar without opening the context menu at all, and for those who prefer keyboard access, you can press F5 to refresh the folder.
Of course, there's no confirmation that it's possible to restore the refresh option in folders, but most likely, given that this is a very minor change, it's probably only a matter of time before Microsoft chooses to take care of user habits as good as it gets.
