Transferring Ext hd Win 10 clone backup to installed hd.

Greetings- 01-17-2k24 It has been a while.....Starting "fresh" here; 1)...I have a laptop with Win 10 on it, 64bit.... 2)...I made a full CLONE of the hard drive last month with no issues... 3)...I need to wipe the SSHD completely out.. 4)...Can-should I use "A" to over-write the internal drive (laptop) as there are multiple partitions? 5)..."IF" the drive were already wiped or, a brand new drive, would not "A" have to be on that drive from the start to access the computer and ext hard drive?

  • Thanks Lizard, we appreciate this question.
    What is "A"?
You did a nice job of giving us the technical parts of your system, and some intruiging hypotheticals. Could you please tell us what you want from your PC in the end?

    "A" is short for Aomei....

Lenovo (pos!) laptop....Win 10 64bit, 8gigs ram ....Plenty of hd space on a sshd.

1)...The os (w10) is screwed up (I did it - no hardware failure)...

2)...I want to over-write the entire hard drive with a CLONE copy I made to an external hard-drive before boot-up issues.....

    3) I want to know if "A"  can wipe the entire hard drive and place the saved clone onto it...

**4)...If the "transfer" from ext hd goes wrong for ANY reason, I will then not have "A" on the laptop hd and no way to run "A" to try again..

Which Aomei product, Backupper or Partition Assistant? Both can clone, or migrate.
If you want to clone an external disk to your internal disk, then you may proceed. BU and PA will overwrite the partitions, and data on the destination disk for you. If you want to take the optional step of manually erasing the disk ahead of time, you may do that.
When cloning any disks with BU, PA, please always check before cloning, that the partition table type MBR/GPT source disk, matches the destination disk partition table type.
    Backupper WinPE USB:
Add custom drivers, such as NVMe, if necessary. Does not work with some monitors.

    Partition Assistant WinPE USB:
Add custom drivers, such as NVMe, if necessary.

    Aomei WinPE Builder USB:
Includes Partition Assistant, Backupper, Recuva, 7zip, OSF Mount, CPU-Z, Bootice, DiskMgmt.msc. Supports x64 portable apps. Does not support any additional drivers, such as some internal NVMe disks.

    OK

If you want to take the optional step of manually erasing the disk ahead of time, you may do that.
IF "A" CAN DO THAT, THAT WILL BE FINE AS LONG AS IT WIPES THE HD AND ALL PARTITIONS.

When cloning any disks with BU, PA, please always check before cloning, that the partition table type MBR/GPT source disk, matches the destination disk partition table type.
HUH?...WHATEVER TABLE WAS ON TE DESTINATION HD (LAPTOP INTERNAL HD) WOULD BE ON THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE CLONE OF SAME.

Add custom drivers, such as NVMe, if necessary. Does not work with some monitors.

***SO, ARE YOU INDICATING THAT I SHOULD DOWNLOAD THE ABOVE TO A USB (32GIG SO, I HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM) DRIVE STICK?.....IF/WHEN I ENERGIZE "A" ALREADY PRESENT ON THE LAPTOP TO TRANSFER THE SYSTEM ON THE EXT HD TO THE INTERNAL DESTINATION, AT WHAT POINT OR, WHY WOULD I NEED TEH FLASH DRIVE?
  • ...ANYONE??
  • I guess this died..........
  • @Lizard, Based on your situation, you need to boot from the cloned drive and then clone it to another disk. Clone will overwrite the destination.
